Hello to all,

Many of you may be concerned about the MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) situation in Korea.

All cases have been related to health care facilities. (45 per cent of infected people are either inpatients or outpatients at the hospital and 35 per cent are visitors. Health care professionals account for 20 per cent.) It is reported that there is no sign of community transmission.

Yet, as of July 2, the outbreak appears to be entering an easing phase as the Ministry of Health said that there were no additional cases for five days since June 28.

Korean government will declare soon  "Extinction of the MERS epidemic in Korea"

As you know, Jeju Island is isolated from the Korean peninsula and also, provincial authorities is working on prevention of MERS. Currently, Jeju is one of MERS-free regions in South Korea. Numbers of international conferences are being held at the moment. ISORD-8, as well, will be held as planned.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you soon in Jeju.
